The Power of Imagination in Building Your Future and How to Use It.
How the imagination is God’s tool to change your life.
Introduction: What is Imagination? The Power of Imagination
Imagination is the canvas of the heart. The imagination is hard to describe but I like to describe it as the original “white board.” The imagination is the source of everything that is occurring in your life.
The imagination is the field of your life. Whatever you sow there will spring up. The imagination is where we encounter the unseen realm.
As a man thinks in his heart so is he. Proverbs 23:7b
We can try to devalue the imagination in our scientific process world but the reality is the most staunch believers in reason use their imagination constantly. To find solutions, to build hypotheses, and to experiment.
If someone asks you “How many windows are in your home?” I promise you went in your mind and imagined walking through every room. The imagination is part of your everyday life. Use it intentionally to create a life you love. Meditate and feed on the things you WANT to see.
“I pray that the Father of glory, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, would impart to you the riches of the Spirit of wisdom and the Spirit of revelation to know him through your deepening intimacy with him. I pray that the light of God will illuminate the eyes of your imagination, flooding you with light, until you experience the full revelation of the hope of his calling —that is, the wealth of God’s glorious inheritances that he finds in us, his holy ones!” Ephesians 1:17-18 TPThttps://bible.com/bible/1849/eph.1.17-18.TPT
When God opens our eyes, He uses the light of God to brighten our imagination. Flooding it with light so you can experience the fullness of hope.
Can people have evil imaginations or make things up?
Yes, they can. However just because this is possible doesn't mean we should disregard our ability to imagine. Even if you attempted to, no one could fully shut off their ability to dream. It will come out one way or the other.
We also see how intrinsically the concept of the heart and the imagination are in scripture. You can throw away the use of your imagination about as much as you can throw away your heart.
How God Uses Our Imagination to Build Our Future. We have to Change the Picture on the Inside of Us.
In the words of Pastor Cho in the book “The Fourth Dimension”
What becomes pregnant in your heart and mind is going to come out in your circumstances . Watch your heart and your mind more than anything else . Do not try to find the answer of God through another person , for God’s answer comes to your spirit and through your spirit the answer comes to your circumstances. - Page 20
What you think about, speak and dwell on is the seed you are sowing for your life. Ask God to help you change your meditation.
If more of us understood this concept, we would get different results when we prayed. Instead, after we pray, we immediately open our eyes, check our wallets, and feel our bodies to see if something has happened. But miracles don’t come from the outside; they come from the inside. You cannot pray for healing while planning your funeral. You have to use your imagination to “see” the Word at work in your life. Don’t wait for a physical manifestation to verify that God’s promises are true. Instead, see yourself walking without pain. See yourself sleeping through the night, living instead of dying, eating what you haven’t been able to eat.
-Andrew Wommack
See yourself healed. See yourself saved. See yourself in the new role or job. See yourself in a healthy marriage, see yourself strong, see yourself successful and keep doing it. Make it a habit to “see” demons leave people. To see people healed, to see your church grow, and if you can “see it” then you can see it.
How to Use Your Imagination and change the picture inside for a More Positive Future
Genesis 6:5 (AMP) The LORD saw that the wickedness (depravity) of man was great on the earth, and that every imagination or intent of the thoughts of his heart were only evil continually.
In Genesis 6, one of the main reasons for the flood was the wicked imaginations of men. What we dwell on in the heart is important to God. it’s not enough to avoid evil imaginations. We must know how to build good imaginations, good expectations and good hopes in our hearts.
Isaiah 26:3 (TPT)
Perfect, absolute peace surrounds those whose imaginations are consumed with you; they confidently trust in you.
Some translations use heart instead of imagination but it doesn't change the verse. God wants our heart, mind, imagination dwelling on the realities of the Kingdom. Our hearts filled with hope, joy and endless peace! How? Through keeping our eyes on HIM. He has all the answers, He has the income for you, He has the woman for you, He has the man for you, He has the answer for all your confusion, He knows what truth is, He knows how to avoid the lies and darkness that are widely propagated and He loves you deeply. He loves you even in your weakness.
Also in Isaiah 26:3, those who consume their hearts with the Lord confidently trust in him. The consumed heart is full of peace! It’s full of refreshing. If you don’t feel at peace, be intentional about giving your heart to him.
Pour out your heart before the Lord. Imagine the cross and allow the Holy Spirit to lead you. Test the spirits and ask the Lord to help you discern what is Him and what is not.
Luke 11:7-12
**7**Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. **8**For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
**9**Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? **10Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?11**So if you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
**12**In everything, then, do to others as you would have them do to you. For this is the essence of the Law and the Prophets.
If you ask for the Lord to show you visions, be patient and trust He is answering you. You will have to test the Spirits and sometimes ponder things. Ask for discernment and over time you will get used to his voice and his ways. You will know when it’s Him.
Hebrews 5:11-14
**11**We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain, because you are dull of hearing. **12**Although by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to reteach you the basic principles of God’s word.c You need milk, not solid food!
**13**For everyone who lives on milk is still an infant, inexperienced in the message of righteousness. **14**But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained their senses to distinguish good from evil.
Don’t be dull of hearing. You have the Spirit! You are righteous. Constant worry about missing it or getting in the flesh is an hindrance and keeps you out of faith. Get out of unbelief.
Can it be that easy?
Yes it can. The Kingdom is given to little children.
We can enter into the rest of God proclaimed in Hebrews 4.
2 Corinthians 10:5 (ASV)
casting down imaginations, and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ;
Cast down those vain imaginations and ask for righteous imaginations. Give yourself to seeing the miracles you want to see. Bring every thought to the obedience of Christ.
See yourself fit
See yourself prospering
See yourself preaching the gospel and people turning to God
See the cross and how Jesus suffered. Visualize it and realize that was the payment for you.
Imagine biblical stories and how they occurred. Keep it scriptural but the Holy Spirit could enlighten you on some things and He will confirm through the scriptures.
Testimonies
I remember visualizing people getting healed in my high school and people coming to God. One day I was walking in the halls and I felt a pain in my hip that I knew I didn’t normally have. I knew the Lord was speaking to me. I asked the cheer leader walking by.
Me: Do you have a pain in your left side of your hip
Her: How did you know?
Me: In the name of Jesus, Be healed.
I said calmly. No show. No unnecessary loudness. Just confidence in God. Not myself.
Fast forward
I was visiting my home church while I was at bible school and a guy comes up to me.
Him: Hey man, I prayed I would see you again (In a desperate tone)
Me: Why?
Him: You prayed for my girlfriend (the cheerleader) in the school hallway and she got instantly healed and I was so moved by that. It was like God was haunting me. I just had to get saved.
Conclusion: The Importance of Imagining a Better Future. The Divine Power of Imagination
Let the Lord use your imagination to give you Holy Ghost sanctified imaginations. See those miracles you want to see. That’s why I saw that miracle. I had practiced in my heart multiple times. Not the exact scenario but enough practice in my heart to wield power with God’s confidence.
Ephesians 3:20 (TPT) Never doubt God's mighty power to work in you and accomplish all this. He will achieve infinitely more than your greatest request, your most unbelievable dream, and exceed your wildest imagination! He will outdo them all, for his miraculous power constantly energizes you.
His power in you will exceed your wildest imagination! That means you need to use it for God to exceed it.
Why Imagining the Future is Important for Christians
We should be leading the way in the world. We can do that through service. We have the creativity and the wisdom of God to demonstrate his multifaceted wisdom in the world.
Stop waiting for the rapture and step away from your responsibility to make the world a better place for our children. Do your job in your generation and stop passing the buck to future generations.
Rapture or not. No man knows the day or the hour. In Thessalonians, Paul called out the believers who stopped working because Jesus was coming any moment. Why? We should be active with the work of the harvest until He comes. Raise powerful kids, learn valuable skills, pursue God until He anoints you with influence. Don’t just pick up your beach chair and sit there until Jesus comes or watch Fox News and says “Jesus is coming soon” as you do nothing.
Pray. Everyone can do that and ask God to use believers in this great harvest. Ask God to thrust out laborers.
God Creates Us in His Image and We Must Create in His Image as Well. How?
You have the creative Spirit in you, The Holy Spirit. He is the answer to everything in the world. Let him dream through you. We might be asking for God’s will but He is waiting to hear the dream of his people.
